Pamporovo is a famous winter resort in Bulgaria. It is one of the most desired destinations for skiers and snowboarders during the winter season.Pamporovo is located in the heart of the Rodopi Mountain, on around 260 km from the capital – Sofia and on only 85 km from Plovdiv. The Rodopi Mountain is located in Bulgaria but a part of it is in Greece (the southern neighbor of Bulgaria). It is the largest mountain in Bulgaria – it takes 1/7 of the territory of the country. The mountain is a great destination in the winter as well as in the warmer seasons. It offers great conditions for tourism.
Pamporovo is mostly visited in the winter season which begins from December and ends in April. The resort has very modern ski facilities. Almost every ski track in Pamporovo starts from Snejanka peak (1926 m) which is the highest in the region and is included in The 100 National Touristic Sites of Bulgaria.
The location of Pamporovo gives all the tourists the opportunity not only to enjoy the winter sports but also to visit the interesting places in the region. Near the resort there are three caves – Devil’s Throat, Uhlovica and Yagodisnka cave. The three of them are among the most beautiful caves in Bulgaria.

The caves
The Devil’s Throat received its name thanks to the rocks located in the entrance of the cave which reminds of an open mouth. The legend tells that this is the place from where Orpheus went down to the Hades kingdom to save his beloved Eurydice. The cave is unique – one of the most beautiful and dangerous in Bulgaria.
